Unboxing Illumicrate The Cruel Prince box

I was a bit scared about this box after my dissapointment with the Owlcrate box. But Illumicrate blew me away. I bought this box knowing that there would be three dustjackets in it, illustrated by one of my favorite illustrators: Rosiethorns88. But even without these, this box would have been amazing. I was already blown away when the box came in. It was so big!! And it was needed, because this box was so full!

The first, and biggest item in this box was the blanket. It’s so incredibly soft! I just want to snuggle under it and never come out. The design is simple, but still gorgeous! It’s made by Yoshi Yoshitani.

The next item, literally blew me away. These book-ends are incredibly useful and so. Freaking. Beautiful. I am still over the moon. I cleaned out half a shelf in my bookcase to show these off. It’s made by the amazing Noverantale.

I am a sucker for pins, so I love this beautiful one from Fable and Black. It’s probably the biggest pin I’ve ever seen. The design fits the last book perfectly. And it fits nicely on the next item!

Bags are often in book boxes and normally they get never used by me. But this one is a different case! First: the design is beautiful and I love the design by Alice Duke. But the best thing about this bag is probably that it has a zipper! I lose stuff pretty easily, so this is perfect for me. And the pin looks sooo good on it. Can’t wait to use it!

You can never have too much artwork. And Illumicrate proves that with this amazing bookmarkset made by the freaking amazing artist Merwild. All the important characters are given a beautiful face by this artist. Even though Locke and Tarquin don’t deserve it. If there’s one bad thing I can say about this, is that the bookmarks are on one side brandmarked with artwork © Holly Black, without the name of the illustrator. I really am against that. I understand that it’s Holly’s story, but don’t take the artist rights.

And now for the reason I bought this box: The dust jackets. I already expected them to be great, but I didn’t expect this. The quality is beautiful and I love the structure between shiny and not. And the design… Rosiethorns88 outdid herself. I love all three of them and I immediately have started using them!

And last, but definitely not least, the gorgeous edition from The Cruel Prince. It’s beautiful and the quality is great! I love the handsigned bookplate and the green sprayed edges fits the book perfectly.

This box is all I wanted and more. I love love LOOOOVE artwork, and this was the perfect box for that. All the items are great and the designs are a sight for sore eyes. I could not have asked for a better box. I love the dustjackets so much, but my favorite item is definitely the book-ends. I am blessed and so happy with this box. So, thank you Illumicrate!

Which item do you like the most?

Unboxing Owlcrate Queen Of Nothing

I’ve been hyping about this box for months! I’m a pretty big fan of The Folk of The Air series, so I could not wait to read the last book in the series. And, of course, I had to have book boxes of it. I bought two and the first one was from Owlcrate! I had pretty high expectations. Spoiler alert: they did not come out…

The first item I took out of the box were faerie lights. Which are adorable, but do not really have anything to do with the series. Also, why would you make something like this USB-based? That’s definitely not a good idea.

The second item was a tin enamel mug with artwork from Holly Dunn. Sadly, it was a bit banged up, which easily happens with these types of mugs. I liked the artwork and the subtle nod to the cover of Queen Of Nothing, but it did not immediately give me QON vibes.

The third item I LOVED though. It’s a small tapestry with artwork from Stella Bookish Art. I love her work and i cant wait to display this one! It fits the series perfectly and is so gorgeous!

The next item was also a big hit for me. I’m a sucker for enamel pins, so this beautiful beetle pin from Alchemy and Ink was perfect for me. I am really curious to find out what it refers to in the book!

But the next item was probably my biggest dissapointment. I love usable items, so when I saw the tea spoons, I was definitely hoping they were usable. But they aren’t! It seems they are for decoration only. And I also did not really like the design, it was a bit too much for me. And again, it is not something that really got anything to do with the series.

The coasters are pretty cute. They are all based on a quote from the book and I love that! So yes, I am a fan of the coasters. The design is made by the amazing KDP Letters.

The trinket dish was cute, but there was also a trinket dish in the september box from Owlcrate. I would have liked some original materials. It is pretty though! It’s made by Literary Lifestyle Company.

The serving tray was broken sadly. I’ve glued it together for this pic, but I can’t put something on it, or it will break again. The design is okay, but not that great, and I don’t really know if I can use this, but okay. The design is by Holly Dunn.

I really don’t understand the choice of one of the prints. The art of both of them is gorgeous, but why would you ever make a holographic like thing with an artprint? I understand if other people love it, but I don’t. It kinda hurts my head and I want to enjoy the art, without it being so shiny. It’s also hard to take a decent picture of. The artwork is made by Mélanie Bourgeois.

Last, but definitely not least, is the book itself. It’s so incredibly gorgeous! It also holds an author letter, a signature and even an additional enamel pin from the publisher Little, Brown! I will not keep it though. I bought the box for the goodies and I don’t have the other covers, so I would rather have someone have it, who wants to complete their collection!

I was pretty dissapointed to be honest. When I saw the quality of Owlcrate’s Finale box, I couldn’t wait to find out what they were planning for this one. But it felt like it was more a standard box around the subject Faerie, instead of it being a special box for Queen Of Nothing. I will keep a few of the items, but will also sell a few items. I hoped for more real artwork and special items, but it did not feel special at all.

What is your favorite item from this box?

Unboxing Owlcrate Dawn of a New World box

So, I had a subscription on Owlcrate, since I REALLY NEED that Queen Of Nothing box. So that’s why I got the last Fear The Night box. You can find my unboxing here. But I accidentally was too late with ending my subscription (since I don’t have money…) and now I also got this one. And boy, was I glad I got it. Since it has my favorite item EVER.

Let’s start by the beginning. When the box arrived, I kinda cried. It was totally busted up and I was like, WHY DO YOU DO THIS TO MEEEE. But okay. Continue. The first item in the box was a book tin, inspired by the Illuminae files from Jay Kristoff. It’s made by Stella Bookish Art, a designer I absolutely love. The design is definitely gorgeous, but I haven’t read this series yet, but my boyfriend has it, so maybe I’ll shove it up on my endless TBR.

The second item, I didn’t love all that much. There was a set of three magnetic bookmarks by Craftedvan, inspired by the comic series Saga. Even though I am interested in the comics, I really don’t like the design of these bookmarks, so I was a bit disappointed.

But the next item, boy did I love it. I literally SQUEALED. I don’t do that often, but I’m definitely a sucker for necklaces and I LOVE The Lunar Chronicles, so I am so incredibly happy with this FREAKING GORGEOUS necklace by Iron And Ink Designs. I am still blown away by it. Did put another necklace on it, since I like my necklaces short.

Here was another item I was a bit unimpressed by. First, because it’s totally folded, but second, I really don’t like the design. It’s a bit too much. Would have loved to see a beautiful rainbow colored sticker and not this futuristic style, but I do admit that it fits the theme. Not the book though. It’s made by Blanca Montiel, which disappointed me even more, since her designs are normally beyond gorgeous.

And now for the books. I always like to be suprised by the books, so I did not know which books would be in there. But I gotta say, I wasn’t dissapointed at all! I really like that both books are indeed Sci-Fi, but one was more contemporary and the other more high fantasy. But both of them are queer! I really think there should be more queer books, so I love that.

The first book was ‘I hope you get this message’ by Farah Naz Rishi. Life as we know it may end in seven days, since the earth has been contacted by aliens from the planet Alma, and they might not be all that friendly. With only seven days to face their truths and right their wrongs, Jesse, Cate, and Adeem’s paths collide even as their worlds are pulled apart. This book has a really pretty cover and the cutest author note I’ve ever seen. BUT, that’s not it. This book has an awesome bookstyle hidden under the dustjacket. I loved this little detail, it makes the book look even better!

The second book is Crier’s War by Nina Varela. The Automae have enslaved the humans. Lady Crier, perfect daughter of the sovereign king and Automae, is prepped to take over, but she is terrified for the people to find out she isn’t all that perfect. Her handmaiden, the human Ayla, has been plotting to kill Crier, to take revenge on the king. But when the two spend more and more time together, their feelings take a whole other level. Can a human/android relationship survive in a time of war? This book…I. Love. It. I had not heard about it before, but it sounds so freaking good. I cannot wait to start reading this book. The cover is just stunning!

With the books, there were also two enamel pins. I love the fact that Owlcrate always has an enamel pin for each book in their boxes. One I liked more than the other. The heart was so pretty and so obviously befitting for Crier’s War. The second one did not really feel as an enamel pin, but just a standard pin. It didn’t really give the uniqueness enamel pins usually have, and the other pin did have. It could be also a pin that is being sold in your nearest music shop. They were made by The Enchanted Bookshop.

Officially, there would have been another item, inspired by Heart of Iron, written by Ashley Poston, who is one of my favorite authors. Was a bit disappointed that this item would not be in the box anymore, but oh well, the box was still great! I was definitely surprised about the quality of this box. Not everything was my taste, but that’s something you will always have. But the necklace. I literally am never gonna take it of. Expect for when I sleep, since I am the móst clumsy person, and I’m sure I will impale myself on this necklace then…

Owlcrate Fear The Night Unboxing

It’s almost Halloween, so it is to expected that multiple bookish boxes would do a Halloween edition. Owlcrate is one of them. I have a subscription on Owlcrate, since I’m in desperate need of their Queen Of Nothing box and this was the only way to get it. That did mean I would also get this box. I didn’t really mind, since I kinda like Halloween materials, so let’s go!

The first thing was a little box with a trinket dish in it. I already had one from a former Fairyloot box and I don’t use that one, so I sadly don’t have a lot of use for this trinket dish. But the design is absolutely gorgeous. It’s made by Stella Bookish Art, a designer with a style I adore. I also really like the used quote, but if I’m really gonna use it, I wonder…

The second item were the fingerless gloves. I immediately got a flashback to my good old emo period where these kind of items were a fashion statement. I have a pretty cold room, so I might use them when I’m working in my home!

The third item, that you could also see in the last picture is the coffee. Even though the taste sounds absolutely delicious (you can wake me up for everything involving caramel), I don’t have a coffee machine in my home. Yes, I know you don’t exactly need one, so I’m thinking about using it without the machine, since I’m really curious to find out how it tastes. The coffee is from Bones Coffee Company.

The next item, which is probably my favorite, is the Glow In The Dark skull pin by Lapels and Spells. Owlcrate always has an enamel pin in their boxes and It’s always one of my favorite items in boxes. I love the amount of details enamel pin artist can get in such a small surface. And the glow in the dark part is such a fun extra!

There was also an art print in this box. I always love to see artists making gorgeous fan art, but I didn’t think this one was that special. Not because of the art style, which is pretty, but because it’s based on a quote from Ray Bradbury’s ‘Something Wicked This Way Comes, but it’s not something that really interests me. The artprint is made by Anne Lambelet Illustration.

In this box there wasn’t one, but two books! Next to the official book, there was also a Penguin Horror Classic in it. I was kinda hoping for Dracula or Frankenstein, but it was The Haunting of Hill House. I gotta be honest, I haven’t read this book yet, so it’s kinda a good thing that this one was the chosen book! And also, it’s curated by the amazing Guillermo del Toro, so it’s definitely going to be amazing!

The featured book in this box is The Bone Houses. This book is about Aderyn, who is a gravedigger and goes through a tough time since both her parents died. When Ellis, a map maker, comes in town, the awakened dead, also known as Bone Houses, get a new ferocity. Together they have to travel to find a solution to both their problems. This book isn’t one I would have bought for myself, but I am pretty interested in the story. I kinda like getting books in different genres, to find out if my tastes have changed overtime. So I can’t wait to start this book!

I was pretty suprised about how much I liked this box! I loved almost all items, even though some of the items I’m probably not gonna use (in the near future). My favorite item was defintely the enamel pin. It’s such a beauty. I kinda hoped that this box would have a candle, since that’s something I think would have been a befitting item. Maybe next time. I will also get Owlcrate’s next box, Dawn Of A New World, so I can’t wait to find out what’s going to be in that box!
